His policies are driving voters away, including those from the crucial Hispanic demographic, said Professor Paleologos.
On Tuesday, Boston-based Suffolk University published a poll showing that more than 60% of Miami residents disagree with President Donald Trump’s immigration raids.

Conducted in collaboration with WSVN-TV 7, the poll revealed that 61% of respondents in Miami believe that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids have gone too far.
In addition, 59% said they oppose the cancellation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, a policy that benefits more than half a million Haitian residents in the United States.
These policies have led to a decline in support for Trump among Miami residents. Fifty-two percent of those surveyed said the recent deportations of Venezuelans, Cubans and Argentines living in Miami would reduce their support for Trump in the future.
“The Trump administration’s actions on these policies are driving voters away, including those from the crucial Hispanic demographic,” said David Paleologos, director of Suffolk University’s Political Research Center.
Three in ten respondents said they would vote for Trump if the election were held today — a drop from the 36% who reported voting for the Republican in the November 2024 election. The Suffolk University poll was conducted by phone with 500 Miami residents and has a margin of error of approximately 4%.
Regarding economic issues, 41% of those surveyed said the economy is worse under Trump, while 37% said it had improved compared to Joe Biden’s presidency (2021–2025).
Miami, one of the U.S. cities with the highest percentage of Hispanic residents, has seen an increase in immigration raids targeting undocumented migrants — actions supported by Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
As part of his anti-immigration policy, Trump in July inaugurated a migrant detention center dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” located west of Miami in a wetland habitat for alligators and pythons. Human rights advocates have denounced the facility, saying it lacks adequate conditions to house undocumented migrants.
